A study has found 2,499 people worldwide died of Crohn�s disease or diabetes in 2016.
A report from the Crohn Disease Foundation, which is an independent charity that supports research and care for people with Crohnís disease and other forms of inflammatory bowel disease, said Crohn disease caused about 1,700 deaths in the United States and 1,567 in Canada.
A large proportion of the deaths were from Crohn���s disease.
It found there were 2,547 people who died of a type of Crohns disease in 2016 in the US and 645 in Canada, and 523 people in Australia.
The report said there were 6,914 deaths in Australia in 2016 and 1.7 million in the world, with about 1.4 million deaths worldwide.
The study said the main causes of death in Australia were cardiovascular disease (including heart disease), cancer, chronic liver disease, and certain forms of pneumonia.
