A cat scratch disease has been found in a home in Winnipeg and police are investigating.

The dog was found in the residence in the 900 block of Victoria Street on Friday afternoon, Winnipeg police said in a news release on Saturday.

“The owner reported seeing her dog scratching a couch and she called police to investigate,” police said.

The owner reported that her dog was scratched by the couch.

The animal was taken to the vet for treatment.

“It was a little while before they could get an MRI scan of the dog and the vet found no evidence of scratching on the dog,” police wrote.

“This was just an unfortunate situation and the dog has been returned to its owner.”

The Winnipeg Humane Society is assisting with the case.

“We’re hoping for a positive outcome, that’s all we can say at this point,” said Michelle Fitch, the society’s veterinarian.

“If there is anything out there to be concerned about, please let us know.”

Winnipeg has a cat population of about 10,000.

They are usually kept indoors and only allowed out for grooming.
