The World Health Organization has declared the measles, mumps, rubella and chickenpox vaccine as the world’s most effective.

In 2016, more than 2.1 million people worldwide were diagnosed with measles and more than 917,000 people were hospitalized, including 4,500 children, according to WHO figures.
The vaccine was licensed in the US in 2015.
In 2017, a measles outbreak hit Japan, where the disease was reported to have killed more than 300 people and infected more than 1,500 others.
The United States reported a peak of cases of measles in November, with about 1,800 reported cases and 4,700 confirmed cases.
